Pictou County Wellness Centre is a multi-purpose community recreation facility that opened in 2012. Hailed for its outstanding energy efficiency, it is home to the YMCA, two National Hockey League sized ice surfaces, and multiple community conference spaces.

One of the many unique elements of Breakhouse’s design was their vision of a 160-foot curving ribbon that would span the length of the exterior west wall of the building. Their unconventional design also included 6-inch deep, side-lit building letters. To bring their vision to life, they needed a signage partner who would be up for the challenge of pushing the envelope.

Breakhouse approached eyecandy who met the challenge with enthusiasm and innovation, developing sample channel letters to test the material flex and illumination capacity.

Once the designs were approved, eyecandy built custom letters from break bent acrylic with 6-inch deep edges and side-lit returns, making a challenging design element visually stunning. eyecandy fabricated the 160’ ribbon from aluminum and developed an innovative installation solution by creating a floating rubber membrane to secure the logo through the building envelope.

“Working with eyecandy SIGNS is effortless and results in high quality project execution as well as exceptional service. They continue to be a trusted partner for Breakhouse in creating signage and wayfinding solutions. This reliable relationship gives us confidence to know that eyecandy has our back when needed.” - Peter Wȕnsch, Founding Partner, Breakhouse Inc.

In keeping with the fresh and youthful appearance employed throughout the building, bright, eye-catching colours were incorporated along with modern glass and stainless steel materials resulting in a look that is clean, modern, and stylized.

A decade later, the signs are still as vibrant, sturdy and relevant as the day eyecandy installed them.

eyecandy SIGNS INC. completed this challenging project on time and budget with a strong degree of professionalism.
